Low-Slope Roofing Mistake No. 6: Not Meeting Minimum Weld Width
Is there anything more frustrating than being called back to a completed job because an inspector has found welds that fail to meet the minimum width spec? According to GAF Senior Commercial Training Specialists Dave Scott and Wally Brown, failing to meet the minimum weld width is one of the most common — and easily avoided — mistakes in low-slope roofing.
In this segment of the Roofing it Right with Dave and Wally miniseries on the Top Ten Mistakes in Low Slope Roofing, the two experienced pros offer tips on avoiding those frustrating call backs by getting the weld right the first time:
- Remember that the minimum weld width for both hand and robot welds is 1″ to 1.5″
- A simple rule of thumb: If you think your weld might need a patch, just patch it. It’s faster to do it right away than to come back and redo it later.
