Fighting against the wind

Enhanced Storm Support From GAF

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

If you thought 2017 was a bad year for storms (it was) experts say the future is not looking any sunnier. According to research from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, we are likely to see hurricanes with increasingly higher wind speeds and rainfall rates. When you factor in flooding from rising sea levels, increased coastal populations and a U.S. labor shortage, it’s clear that anyone in the construction industry should already be busy preparing their storm season response plans.

GAF is ready to help. The company has recently launched a comprehensive suite of tools and training opportunities designed to help contractors respond to Mother Nature’s wrath in a way that builds their businesses as they rebuild their storm-battered communities. From weather-tracking apps to insurance insights, GAF has committed to investing in making storm response easier and more effective for contractors and have also taken steps to educate homeowners on potential storm impacts.

GAF WeatherHub, powered by Accuweather, is an all-in-one weather tracking and historical reporting tool designed to help contractors identify needs, verify storm damage, and plan installations. It’s free for GAF Master Elite®, Master, Master Select™, and Premium Coating Systems (PCS) contractors.

  • Powerful hail and storm tracking tools help identify areas in need of roofing services, by size and specific location, right down to the street level.
  • Historical address info, now with printable maps and reports, makes it easy to communicate with insurers with data from a trusted source, and may help property owners choose the right shingle for their weather region.
  • Up-to-the-minute, state-of-the-art forecasting helps contractors schedule crews for maximum productivity.

WeatherHub Alerts is a state-of-the-art weather tracking tool that cross-references potential storm impacts to create alerts. This no-cost proprietary service for property owners notifies their trusted roofing contractor when a potentially damaging storm strikes their neighborhood. The contractor can then quickly schedule a roof inspection to identify and repair any potential storm damage. This service is only available on certain warranties.

TREC — The GAF Storm Trailer

Since most homeowners will replace a roof no more than once or twice in their lifetimes, many have no idea where to begin to repair significant storm damage. That’s one reason GAF has launched the TREC. That stands for Tactical Roofing Education Center. This self-contained informational unit has been designed to educate consumers on the sources, signs, and solutions of storm-damaged roofs. GAF will make it available to consumers and contractors in home improvement retailer parking lots and other public venues following major storms.

Storm Kits

When a damaging storm hits, your neighbors will be as eager to contact you as you are to speak with them. GAF has put together a set of neighborhood canvassing tools — including customizable billboards, radio scripts, door hangers, letters and more — that can help GAF Master Elite® and Certified™ Contractors connect with their communities quickly and effectively.

Expert Value Series — Training and Education. GAF has also launched an array of educational programs to foster storm response capabilities. The Expert Value Speaker (EVS) series offers peer-to-peer expert training for residential and commercial contractors as well as distributors. Seminar subjects have included Storm Restoration, XM8, Fortified Certification (in cooperation with IBHS), and other high-value business-building topics. Speakers include the popular Wade Baughn, whose insights have helped countless owners and contractors collect/get what they deserved for their insurance claims.

GAF.com/StormRelief

And finally, GAF has launched a new one-stop Storm Response information resource at gaf.com/StormRelief. Visitors to the new web portal can download inspection checklists, find a contractor, get tips on working with insurance companies, and much more.

As storms become more of a concern for our communities, rapid, professional response from roofing professionals will become more and more vital. Check back for more information on how GAF is supporting Master Elite® and Certified™ Contractors as they build their businesses and, when necessary, helping rebuild their communities.

    Hi Don,

Completely impressed by these new tools and a big thank you to the entire team of GAF for coming up with these bouquet of tools to help contractors and home owners. I am particularly grateful to you for coming up with TREC, it is a blessing for home owners who would be better equipped with the requisite roofing knowledge and contractors can use this tool to educate themselves better and also answer home owner’s queries more effectively.
